Lesson Unit :
Primitive man, Tools used in different ages
CURRICULAR
OBJECTIVE
: To make the pupil understand the importance of different
tools in the development of human beings
Content Summary :
The
ways and measures adopted by man for his sustenance differed from that of
animals. While animals adopt arboreal adaptation to suit their environment, the
special features of finger and wrist helped man to develop different kinds of
tools which helped him to conquer his surroundings. Primitive man used
different types of tools made out of stones, silver, bronze and wood. His
constant vigil and observation made man progress in his knowledge about nature,
plants and climate. This paved way to the beginning of Astronomy and Geology.
The first primitive stone age began 2 million years ago in ‘Pleistocene age’
and men started living together. The cave paintings of this era give valuable
information about their lives. Paleolithic age, Mesolithic age and Neolithic
age were the important stages of human settlements. The weapons and tools used
in each stage differed from others. The practice of agriculture began in the
Neolithic age. Shaped stones were used during this age for cultivation of
crops.
